The majestic Baobab tree is native to the African savannah and is an icon of the African continent. This prehistoric tree is knowns as ‘The Tree of life’ and predates mankind as well as the splitting of the continents. This tree is the world’s largest succulent- it can store up to 32,000 gallons of water in its large trunk during the raining season and uses that water to bear its fruit in the dry season. Baobab trees can live up to 5,000 years and are a symbol of strength, presence, and grace.
The Glaze
The outside glaze is a matte, opaque white glaze that allows some the white clay’s natural speckling to be revealed. The inside glaze is a shino made with Red Iron Oxide. The rim is left unglazed to express a unique blush-colored reaction that takes place through the meeting of the outside and inside glazes.
