Footed White Ritual Bowl
The Naama Collection
Naama (Arabic for ostrich), inspired this collection’s focus on emulating the simple elegance of ostrich eggs. The ostrich egg appeared in ancient Nubian and Egyptian creation myths as a sign of life and rebirth. The ostrich feather was an emblem of the goddess Maat, goddess of truth. During the final judgement, it is said that the heart of the deceased would be weight against an ostrich feather. Being a symbol of resurrection, ostrich eggs were discovered in Nubian and Egyptian tombs as a kind of funerary offering believe to feed the deceased in the afterlife.
The Glaze
The outside glaze is a matte, opaque white glaze that allows some the white clay’s natural speckling to be revealed. The inside glaze is a shino made with Red Iron Oxide. The rim is left unglazed to express a unique blush-colored reaction that takes place through the meeting of the outside and inside glazes.
Due to the handmade nature of this piece, expect slight variations.
